A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Dr. Dan Lithgo
Foreword:
I recently left a Transfiguration position and have taken a position in the Ministry of Magic. My heart belongs to Transfiguration and thus, I have written this book.
Chapter One: What is Transfiguration?
Transfiguration is an area of magical practice. It is commonly thought of as the transformation of an object. It does, however, go beyond this. Transfiguration, in its simplest definition, is the magic of altering, in any way, an object, animal, person, etc.
Transfiguration, in the past has been compared to Charms. areas are much different, but do have their similiarities. For this book's purpose, Transfiguration requires more precision, focus, and skill than charmswork. With that said, advanced Charms is very difficult, but in the first 4-5 years of schooling, Transfiguration will prove to be much more difficult than Charms.
Chapter Two: Duro
Duro is taught in a beginning Transfiguration classroom. Duro, however, can be implemented in many situations and its value should not be diminished.
Duro turns objects into stone. It is latin for, "I harden." To perform Duro well, the spellcaster should channel feelings related to harshness, such as sadness or dispair. It is possible to cast the spell without using these feelings, but if those feelings are channelled, the spell will be much more successful.
Chapter Three: Fera Verto
Fera Verto is a spell used to turn animals into goblets. It is also a beginning Transfiguration spell.
To perform Fera Verto, mentally erase all defining features of the animal, move your wand in a u-shape, and firmly say the words Fera Verto.
Chapter Four: Expulso
Expulso, most often taught in second year Transfiguration, is a spell that causes objects to explode. Expulso is latin meaning, "to drive out."
To perform expulso, make sure your intent is clear. Get a clear image of the effect of the spell in your mind, channel anger for a more vicious effect and cast the spell.
Chapter Five: Sonorus and Quietus
These two spells are most often taught together. They are cast the same way. Sonorus amplifies a person's voice, Quietus returns the speaker's voice to a normal volume.
To cast the spell, point your wand at the throat of the person that you desire to have an effect on. This will often be yourself. Firmly say the Sonorus or Quietus. It is a simple spell taught in first year Transfiguration.
Conclusion: This book should help with many lessons of your first year of Transfiguration. Look forward to books succeeding this one soon!
